Covid - Changes, Closures and Curriculum

You have clicked on a link to our Covid Page!(click the arrow to find out more)

The periods of Covid Lockdowns and disruption were a challenging time for our pupils and their families and also for our team at Mundella.

We have chosen to retain this page as a reminder of the additional hard work and effort that the staff at Mundella Primary School put in to make sure that our pupils learning was supported throughout this time.

Thank you all for your support; both then and now.

Thank you for your understanding during these difficult times. We will make every effort to keep you informed of any changes that occur; related to Covid 19 and school closures. Please ensure that we have up-to-date contact details and keep an eye on your mobile, for text messages, and our Facebook page, for general information.

Check, below, to see how classes are currently doing.

Resources to Boost Your Child's Wellbeing

During the Covid-19 pandemic, we're all feeling less secure and missing our usual routines. But just as doing exercise improves physical health, you and your child can do activities to boost their mental health.

These activities are based on the Skills for Life programmes. Use them to help your child find healthy ways to deal with their feelings and reactions to the Covid-19 situation.

Our Activities:

  • Take around 10 minutes to complete and can be downloaded or done with pen and paper
  • Cover the following themes: Feelings, staying connected, dealing with change, getting along, dealing with worries and relaxing
  • Designed for children aged five to nine but can be adapted for younger or older children
  • Include instructions for adults to complete the activities with children

Partnership for Children

Partnership for Children is an international charity which promotes the mental health and emotional wellbeing of children all around the world. They produce mental health promotion programmes for primary schools that teach children skills for life: how to get on with others, and how to deal with difficulties. Their programmes meet all elements of the Mental Wellbeing PSHE guidance for Relationships and Health Education for primary schools.

Check out their website for even more resources and support.

Attendance and Provision - Critical Workers* and Vulnerable Families

Mundella Primary School will be open throughout this period. Pupils whose parents are employed as Critical Workers* are welcome to attend school throughout this period. Because of planning and organisation we ask that you please communicate which days prior to attending and as soon as possible.

Understandably a number of our families are in vulnerable circumstances. Those that fall into this recognised category of support will be contacted by school and have places available for learning on site.

Critical Workers are those whose roles are essential to Health, Education, Social Care, Transport and Provision of Food

Learning - Online via Website (work packs as a last resort)

All learning, both in and outside of school, will follow the resources and pattern of activities that is shown on our school website (here). We are using Oak National Academy as the basis for resources and, by doing so, it allows a great deal of flexibility in the home (pause, rewind, choose when to watch etc) but also means that all pupils, in each class, are learning the same things.

Our significant preference is that you work from the online resources. Preparing, printing and distributing work packs is timely and also reliant on collection, therefore we ask you only to request these if you can not access the online resources.

Teachers are recorded Mundella content, during the lock down of January 2021, that is available via our YouTube channels and may be useful to support learning for your children.

Communication - Regular calls from Class Team

We will make every attempt to call most pupils on an almost daily basis. This will be used as an opportunity to touch base but is about work rather than a general chat. The calls at the end of the week should be used to ask for more detailed support with the activities that your children have been doing throughout the week.

Additional calls may come from members of our team just to check in and see how both you and your children are getting on. Please do not hesitate to call the office should you require help or general assistance however, we ask that you wait for a call from a member of you child's class team if it is a work related query.

Support with Food - Food Hampers (vouchers as a last resort)

Where pupils are eligible for Free School Meals or Universal Free School Meals (infant children) Mundella Primary School will provide provision for all of these children. Our preference is to provide hampers was not practical therefore we have provided vouchers; regardless of attendance in school.

We are not obliged to provide food for Infants (R, Y1 and Y2) when they are not on the school site but we recognise the additional financial challenges that many of our families are coping with so we have, therefore, chosen to maintain support for infants for the time being.

All pupils coming in to school are being asked to come with a packed lunch*.

Although we will attempt to support families with our own foodbank, where families feel that additional support with food would be helpful please contact* school and we will do our best to help.
