Aspire & Achieve

    Pupils

    Music

Music is taught across the whole school by a specialist music teacher, Mrs Driscoll, with class teachers providing cross curricular music in relation to topic work. All children are given the opportunity to play a variety of musical instruments.

    ·         EYFS, Year 1 and 2 these instruments tend to be percussion, both tuned and untuned.

    ·         Year 3 the children learn to play the Ocarina

    ·         Year 4 the children learn to play the Recorder

    ·          Year 5 the children learn to play Ukulele and Djembe

    ·         Year 6 the children are encouraged to combine all of these instruments to play as an ensemble.

All KS2 children have their own individual access to Charanga (the music website that we use) so that they can continue to learn and practise at home. It is really useful if children are encouraged to access this at home.

Singing is an important part of all lessons and the children also regularly sing together in larger groups. All children are given the opportunity to take part in a variety of performances throughout the year.

Additional opportunities are offered from time to time: such as participating in collaborative musical events with other local schools; Youth Festival of Remembrance and other performances within the community.

All children are encouraged to have fun making music!
